After almost two months of work on the engine, it was finally time to give her a spin again. The reason for doing all the work, was a slight vibration at low idle, which can be caused by a lot of different things.

The closure of my home airport, due to yet another COVID lockdown, opened up the possibilities to give my airplane some extra TLC.

Not that my TL Ultralight TL-96 Star needed a lot of maintenance, but there were some little things and somewhat bigger ones, to take care off (something with cabin heating and fixing engine vibration).

As this very unsettled year comes to a closure, Kevin and I wanted to review it together with you. So we asked you on social media to share your past year in aviation and what you enjoy watching on YouTube.

I always wanted to have some nice air to air shots of my plane, in addition to a ton of pictures I already have of her on the ground. It took a bit of coordination, but I managed to assemble a crew for this long desired mission.

When the opportunity comes along to fly the spectacular VL3 Evolution, during the awesome flying expo ‘AirFair 2020’ at Teuge Airport, it’s just impossible to say no! 🙂

This aircraft, built by JMB Aircraft in the Czech Republic, is one of the best performing microlight aircraft (or light sport aircraft) to date.

After all the inspection and maintenance work TL Ultralight did on my airplane, it was time to head home.

For the biggest part of that trip, the weather was more than enough to fly under VFR. Except for a part of the second leg, where we got closer and closer to VMC minimums…

An unprecedented all-access factory tour at TL Ultralight, while my own TL-96 Star gets a thorough inspection and service at their maintenance hangar; almost sounds too good to be true, but that’s what happened when I visited them at Hradec Králové Airport (LKHK)!

Visiting the factory of TL Ultralight, the manufacturer of my TL-96 Star, was one of my bucket list items. But since Hradec Králové (LKHK) in the Czech Republic isn’t that close to home, I didn’t make concrete plans to go there.

But that all changed when they invited me over… 🙂

During the first week of August the weather was just gorgeous, so me and my girlfriend emptied our schedule to go on a tropical flight to the island of Texel, together with (flying) friends Kevin and Lysbeth.

Saturday, 01 August 2020, was the date of this year’s editions of the ‘Schnitzel Fly-In’ at Leer-Papenburg Airport, which I and a pilot friend of mine visited. The title of this event is pretty self-explanatory? 🙂

I wasn’t the only Aviation YouTuber that visited this fly-in. Pilot Frank, a well-known German pilot vlogger was there too, amongst others.
